At the signal, a fleet of thousands surged forth. On August 16, the South China Sea fishing season began. At Yangjiang’s Hailing Island, over 3,400 fishing vessels set sail simultaneously — the largest scale in the event’s history.

Behind this grand event lies the vigorous surge of the fishery economy in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Yangjiang recorded a marine aquaculture output of 385,000 metric tons in the first half of this year. Going to the provincial level, Guangdong's marine fish farming output accounts for nearly half of the national total, establishing itself as China’s renowned "seafood hub".

Guan Tianbiao, the Vice Mayor of Yangjiang City expressed to SFC correspondent that Yangjiang is accelerating the development of a modern marine industrial framework, having established a series of flagship platforms. What's more, he emphasized that Yangjiang is also advancing the development of "Maritime Silk Road City", by integrating maritime heritage culture with coastal tourism.

From August 15 to 17, there were beach music festivals, firework displays, sailing performances, and more, turning the fishing season into a nationwide cultural and tourism celebration.
